30 Days of Happiness: Day 11

Fika: a Swedish word for having coffee and dessert with friends. There is no English equivalent - that probably says something about the Swedes and their priorities, don't you think? I wish I had known this word when my grandmother was alive; I would have suggested fika for us. I think she would have liked that. Anyway, I had fika with some MOMS Club friends yesterday. We had a lovely time nibbling, drinking coffee, and chatting. Exactly what fika is all about. I just love that word.

One of my biggest regrets is that I never picked the brain of my Grandmother while I had her here on earth to interact with. I grew up next door to her, and took her totally for granted. I thought that life was about what I was living, not what she could teach me from her past. OH! such a dummy I was!! She was from Swedish descent. I do not know if she personally came from there, or if the family came earlier. I always assumed she came while a young girl. But, other than sharing a Christmas Angel Bell ornament with me, I do not know anything of this special heritage. What a shame. What a fantastic opportunity you took advantage of, to get to know your grandmother as a person!! I love this story of sharing coffee and DESSERT!! FIKA!! indeed...lovely!
