He's a GUY!

I had a crazy mom moment the other day: Monday was the first day of school. The Girl Child and I walk Monkeybutt to the bus stop (he started 5th grade.) Of course, there are more parents at the bus stop than there are kids...it's like a party or something, and Monkeybutt is pretty well ignoring me (he does that so well.) Anyway, the bus arrives, the kids start getting on, Monkeybutt barely acknowledges my good-bye yells. Some boy toward the front sticks his hand up in "high-5, guy greeting", MB slaps his hand and continues sauntering to the back seat of the bus, which, as a 5th grader, he now occupies. Tears spring to my eyes in proud mommy emotion; my son, my little boy...is now...a GUY. Good bye Hot Wheels and sweet mommy cuddles, hello body odor, crude jokes, and loud rock. Sniff.

LOL - Welcome to the world of adolescent kids!! 5th grade is when my darling daughter became one of the girls. I only get kisses at bedtime and when she's thanking me for something! Enjoy Girl Child being "child" while you can!
